Foundations Experiential Groups (FEG)

FEGs offer personal human formation for Catholic therapists, spiritual directors, coaches, religious, or others who are professionally/vocationally responsible for the formation of others. FEGs have three primary components: facilitated live group sessions, practice triad sessions, and membership to Souls and Hearts Formation For Formators (FFF) online community in Mighty Networks.

Facilitated live group sessions: FEGs meet online (6-9 members) for ten 90-minute sessions, held every other week and facilitated by IFS trained Souls and Hearts staff members ($70/session; $700 total).  The primary text for FEGs is Internal Family Systems Therapy (2nd Ed.) by Richard Schwartz and Martha Sweezy. The live FEG sessions flow from the reading assignments and from audio recordings featuring Dr. Peter Malinoski’s chapter summarizations and ‘Catholic takes’ for the Schwartz and Sweezy content.

Practice triad sessions: Alternating weeks with the facilitated live group sessions, FEG members meet in groups of three for nine 90-minute practice sessions (included in the $700 registration fee). During these sessions, members rotate roles (accompanier, accompanied and observer) as they learn to incorporate IFS and parts language into their form of accompaniment/formation. Episode 151 of the Interior Integration for Catholics podcast, offers a demonstration of how practice triad sessions work, with Dr. Peter in the accompanier role, working with an accompanied person and an observer. In FEG practice triad sessions, the roles are rotated every 20 minutes, with members entering into each of the 3 roles during the 90-minute practice session.

Formation For Formators (FFF) Online Community: A monthly subscription to the FFF online community in Mighty Networks ($40/month).  The FFF offers formators a private space for their FEG with Zoom links for the ten live sessions and access to the recorded meetings which are posted in the private space for review. The FFF also offer wider community resources, connection with other formators, and professional consultation in live monthly ‘office hours’ meetings open to all members and recorded for review.

Advanced Formation Groups (AFG)

AFGs offer personal human formation for Catholic therapists, spiritual directors, coaches, religious, or others who are professionally/vocationally responsible for the formation of others. The advanced groups cater to those who have completed one of the following: an FEG; Foundation Year in the Resilient Catholics Community; IFS ‘Stepping Stones’; or IFS Level 1 training. AFGs have two primary components: facilitated live group sessions, and membership to Souls and Hearts FFF online community in Mighty Networks. Advanced groups do not require practice triads, however AFG members may form triads if desired.

Facilitated live group sessions: AFGs meet online (6-9 members) for ten 90-minute sessions, held every other week and facilitated by IFS trained Souls and Hearts staff members ($70/session; $700 total). The two options for AFGs for the late August/September 2026 through January 2027 session include the following:

Love One Another (AFG-LOA)

What does it mean to be truly known and loved in a community where we can bring all of our parts and learn to speak for them, rather than through them? Through increased awareness and in the moment interactions, members will learn to be aware of their activated parts and speak for those parts. Led by David Edwards, members will experience caring for and understanding others. You will experience who you are in all of your parts including the ones often hidden by shame or blocking protectors. You will develop a deeper experience of intimacy and learn how to make a loving, dynamic relationship work. By experiencing deeper awareness and acceptance, members will be able to deal with difficult feelings including anger, shame, and conflict. The community will develop a strong sense of support, honesty, and compassion in the group.  There is no outside reading.

Relating Wholeheartedly with God in Prayer (AFG-RW)

In this advanced group, we seek a deeper union with God that includes all of our parts.  Fr. Thomas Acklin and Fr. Boniface Hicks in their excellent 2020 book Personal Prayer: A Guide for Receiving the Father’s Love develop the theme that prayer is relational.  When you pray, you bring yourself toward God, with not only your spiritual hang-ups and difficulties, but with all the insecure attachments and all the difficulties each of your parts has with safety, trust, vulnerability, shame, fear, anger, and so many other obstacles and hindrances.

Dr. Peter brings the amazing insights of this book into another dimension by expanding into the realm of parts and systems thinking.  Why?  To help us receive the Father's love not just as a unity, but in each of our parts in our multiplicity.  How?  Through overcoming our parts’ difficulties in their  human formation. This advanced group will be limited to 12 participants.

Formation For Formators (FFF) Online Community: A monthly subscription to the FFF online community in Mighty Networks ($40/month).  The FFF offers formators a private space for their AFG with Zoom links for the ten live sessions and access to the recorded meetings which are posted in the private space for review. This online access also offer wider community resources, connection with other formators, and professional consultation in live monthly ‘office hours’ meetings open to all members and recorded for review.

Fee Details

Each group will meet for 10 sessions at a cost of $70 per session or $700 total, plus a subscription of $40 per month to join the FFF community is required.

After you complete the registration form below, you will receive an email with a payment link to make a non-refundable $200 deposit. This deposit is required to guarantee a spot in either an FEG or an AFG and will be credited against your group fee in the spring.

Please note that all FEG and AFG fees are non-refundable. We must be able to compensate our IFS-trained leaders, and we cannot add new participants once we begin a group.

Also note that the FFF is a formators' community offering resources, connection, and professional consultation and is independent of the groups themselves. If you no longer wish to participate in the community after your FEG or AFG concludes, you must cancel the FFF subscription separately.
